Provenance: Property Of A West London Gentleman; Previously In A Collection Formed On The UK/International Art Market In The 1980s. Auctioned By Apollo Art Auctions in London UK. Currently Private tc&tc New York, USA.

Ancient Cycladic Terracotta Collared Vessel With Two Handles, Circa 2700 to 2200 BCE. A Dark Ceramic Utilitarian Vessel Or Jar With A Tapering Body, A Cylindrical Neck, And Projecting Lateral Lugs At The Shoulder. A Piece That Might Be Late Neolithic Or Very Early Bronze Age In The South Parts Of The Aegean Sea Islands Or Cretan. Nevertheless, A Wide Spread Type On The East Mediterranean Sea.

The Tiny Handles Is A Reminiscence Of The Typical Marble Carved Vessels In Which The Material Hardness Imposed Its Limitations On The Possible Functional Diameter Of Holes To be Carved. That Formal Characteristic Remained On Later Ceramic Manufactured More As A Visual Feature Than A Real Material Or Technological Related Constrained Element Of Manufactures.

This Item Was Seemingly Miss-identified By Its Previous Owners As A Hellenistic Egyptian Jar, The New Description And Historical Attribution Is Entirely Of My Authorship, Note I’m Not An Archaeologist But An Architect And Antiquities Collector.
